Align concept and feasibility early in the model - comparable to a sketch design, without execution detail.
Starting point
- In preliminary design and study, reliable data on technical space requirements is often missing.
- Late coordination leads to costly design changes; 2D sketches alone are hard to check across disciplines.
Goal & benefit
- Maintain concepts as volumes and space reserves in the model and check early for clashes and bottlenecks.
- Make feasibility of plant rooms and service routes understandable for all parties.
Process
- Provide architecture and services models as volumes rather than execution detail.
- Model technical space requirements (electrical, ventilation, sanitary, heating, cooling, plant) as coordination geometry.
- Check clashes, minimum heights, and reserves in the federated model.
Outcome
- Coordinated sketch design with traceable space requirements as the basis for further planning.
Deliverables
- Coordination models for architecture and MEP with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
- IfcWall and IfcSlab (FLOOR) - walls and floor slabs as coordination geometry (without execution detail)
- Schematic main distributions: IfcPipeSegment, IfcDuctSegment, IfcCableCarrierSegment with medium in Reference; equipment space as IfcBuildingElementProxy (ObjectType=Erzeugerplatz)
- Name and Reference per element for identification in the coordination model
- Route cross-section (CrossSectionArea) as a size indication for feasibility checking
