Special room user coordination

Sketch special rooms quickly and roughly in the model and align them with users - no formal modelling guidelines, for meetings and visualization.

Starting point

  • Classrooms, labs, patient rooms, operating theatres, and similar special rooms need early coordination with future users.
  • Formal BIM modelling is too heavy at this stage and slows the dialogue.
  • 2D plans alone are often insufficient to judge spatial effect, layout, and equipment.

Goal & benefit

  • Maintain room types and options as a rough 3D sketch in the model - quick and dirty.
  • Let users visually check size, layout, and equipment and make decisions.

Process

  1. Model typical special rooms as templates or rough volumes in the building - no requirement for clean geometry.
  2. Model furniture, workstations, equipment, plus outlets, switches, and other fittings at the level of detail needed for the decision.
  3. Create visualizations and plans for user meetings, compare options, and sign them off.

Outcome

  • Coordinated room types and equipment configurations as the basis for further planning - without execution-grade model quality.

Deliverables

  • Architecture model with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
  • Special rooms as roughly modelled IfcSpace volumes
  • LongName with room type or use designation (e.g. classroom, lab, patient room)
  • Furniture, equipment, outlets, switches, and other fittings relevant to user coordination at the required level of detail (e.g. IfcFurnishingElement, IfcOutlet, IfcSwitchingDevice)
  • Name optional; no requirement for formal space boundaries or quantity attributes
