Sketch special rooms quickly and roughly in the model and align them with users - no formal modelling guidelines, for meetings and visualization.
Starting point
- Classrooms, labs, patient rooms, operating theatres, and similar special rooms need early coordination with future users.
- Formal BIM modelling is too heavy at this stage and slows the dialogue.
- 2D plans alone are often insufficient to judge spatial effect, layout, and equipment.
Goal & benefit
- Maintain room types and options as a rough 3D sketch in the model - quick and dirty.
- Let users visually check size, layout, and equipment and make decisions.
Process
- Model typical special rooms as templates or rough volumes in the building - no requirement for clean geometry.
- Model furniture, workstations, equipment, plus outlets, switches, and other fittings at the level of detail needed for the decision.
- Create visualizations and plans for user meetings, compare options, and sign them off.
Outcome
- Coordinated room types and equipment configurations as the basis for further planning - without execution-grade model quality.
Deliverables
- Architecture model with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
- Special rooms as roughly modelled IfcSpace volumes
- LongName with room type or use designation (e.g. classroom, lab, patient room)
- Furniture, equipment, outlets, switches, and other fittings relevant to user coordination at the required level of detail (e.g. IfcFurnishingElement, IfcOutlet, IfcSwitchingDevice)
- Name optional; no requirement for formal space boundaries or quantity attributes
