Existing structure survey

DES-EXISTING-STRUCTURE · General · Design

Survey and model the existing building shell as the basis for strip-back, extension, or change of use.

Starting point

  • Strategies such as strip-back to structure with extension need a reliable as-built model of the building shell.
  • Drawings are often missing or diverge from built reality; without point-cloud alignment, decisions go wrong.

Goal & benefit

  • Carry the building shell early in the architecture model with status (existing / demolish / new / temporary).
  • Use architecture drawings and align them with the point cloud.

Process

  1. Obtain available architecture drawings and complement them on site.
  2. Capture the building shell in the architecture model and align it with the point cloud (colour point cloud recommended).
  3. Set status per element and fix project-specific effort depth.

Outcome

  • Traceable as-built architecture model with status for the chosen conversion strategy.

Deliverables

  • Architecture model with modelled elements (e.g. walls, slabs, roofs, columns, beams, doors, windows)
  • Status according to Pset_*Common: NEW, EXISTING, DEMOLISH, TEMPORARY
  • Point-cloud alignment; architecture drawings as the basis
  • Project-specific effort depth
