Existing MEP survey

DES-EXISTING-MEP · General · Design

Survey and model existing building services for change of use or targeted replacement.

Starting point

  • Retaining or converting MEP systems requires knowing existing equipment and networks.
  • Without status and a reliable model, keep / demolish / new decisions stay unclear.

Goal & benefit

  • Carry MEP in the model with Status and PredefinedType.
  • Steer effort depth by project - not everything needs the same capture depth.

Process

  1. Obtain available MEP drawings and equipment lists and complement them on site.
  2. Model relevant equipment and networks and align with the point cloud (colour recommended; open suspended ceilings when possible).
  3. Set Status and PredefinedType per object and check deliverables.

Outcome

  • Traceable as-built MEP model with status and type for retention or conversion.

Deliverables

  • MEP model with modelled equipment and network/route objects
  • Status according to Pset_Common or Pset_TypeCommon: NEW, EXISTING, DEMOLISH, TEMPORARY
  • PredefinedType on each modelled MEP object
  • Point-cloud alignment recommended in colour
  • Project-specific effort depth
