Building performance simulation based on abstractBIM

DES-ABSTRACTBIM-BPS · General · Design

Prepare building simulation without manually rebuilding the architecture model for simulation tools.

Starting point

  • Architecture models are often too detailed or inconsistent for energy and indoor-climate simulation.
  • Manual rework for tools such as IDA ICE, Lesosai, or other gbXML-based software can account for more than 50% of simulation effort.
  • Simulations significantly improve energy use and comfort - but model preparation often slows them down.

Goal & benefit

  • Prepare architecture models with minimal effort so abstractBIM can produce simulation-ready outputs.
  • Enable earlier, repeatable simulations instead of late one-off rework.

Process

  1. Provide an architecture model meeting the minimum requirements (same geometric basis as DES-ABSTRACTBIM-COST).
  2. Upload and process at abstractBIM.com.
  3. Download the simulation model - IFC for IDA ICE or gbXML for other tools.

Outcome

  • gbXML with walls, slabs, spaces, roofs, windows, and doors.
  • Alternatively, IFC for IDA ICE with walls, slabs, windows, doors, and BuildingBody.

Deliverables

  • Architecture model with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, IfcBuildingStorey, IfcSpace, IfcWindow, and IfcDoor
  • Room name in LongName, optional room number in Name
  • Simplified simulation model (for example gbXML) from abstractBIM
