Urban design mass study
DES-URBAN-MASS · General · Design
Model gross volumes per storey and extract quantities for the urban design mass study.
Starting point
- Mass studies and zoning compliance require gross areas and volumes per storey.
- Manual area and volume tables from volume models are error-prone and slow option comparison.
Goal & benefit
- Maintain gross volumes early in the model, storey by storey.
- Derive area, volume, and height per unit or programme share directly from the model.
Process
- Provide gross volumes per storey according to the modelling guideline.
- Optionally separate by flats, units, or public space and set LongName according to the brief.
- Evaluate areas, volumes, and heights per storey and compare options.
Outcome
- Traceable gross quantities per storey and programme share as the basis for the mass study.
Deliverables
- Architecture model with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
- Gross volumes per storey modelled as IfcSpace with PredefinedType=USERDEFINED and ObjectType=Bruttovolumen
- Basement from underside of base slab to top of finished floor; upper storeys from top of finished floor to top of next finished floor or roof
- LongName with unit or use designation according to the brief; optional separation by flats, units, or public space
- GrossFloorArea, GrossVolume, and Height per gross volume
