Competition evaluation with abstractBIM
DES-ABSTRACTBIM-COMP · General · Design
Evaluate competition entries on a comparable basis - independent of each author's modelling style and software.
Starting point
- Competition entries come from different tools and modelling practices; quantities and metrics are rarely directly comparable.
- Manual harmonisation for the jury is labor-intensive and error-prone - reliable area and volume comparisons are often missing.
Goal & benefit
- Bring all entries onto a consistent geometric basis.
- Provide objective metrics and quantities for jury and client.
Process
- Provide each entry's architecture model meeting the minimum requirements (same geometric basis as DES-ABSTRACTBIM-COST).
- Upload to abstractBIM.com to build a comparable quantity and space model.
- Download the models and systematically compare entry metrics.
Outcome
- Building volume and gross floor area.
- Interior and exterior walls with a clear relation to one or two spaces.
- Slabs, roofs, and base slabs.
- Windows, doors, and coverings with space relation and direction.
Deliverables
- Architecture model with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, IfcBuildingStorey, IfcSpace, IfcWindow, and IfcDoor
- Room name in LongName, optional room number in Name
- abstractBIM quantities and metrics as the basis for entry comparison
