QA acoustics / building physics component values

Maintain sound reduction values Rw in the architecture model from the end of the building project phase and check them against acoustic planning.

Starting point

  • Required sound insulation often exists only in the acoustic report; model components carry no Rw values.
  • Without consistent catalogue values, verification and option comparison are laborious.

Goal & benefit

  • The architect enters Rw (laboratory/catalogue value) on separating components.
  • Acoustic and building physics planning can check values and gaps directly on the model.

Process

  1. Define the sound insulation concept and required Rw classes.
  2. The architect enters AcousticRating (Rw as a number), Status, and PredefinedType on walls, slabs, windows, and doors.
  3. Align values with the acoustic concept and verification documents.

Outcome

  • Architecture model with traceable Rw data as the basis for acoustics / building physics QA.

Deliverables

  • Architecture model with IfcWall (exterior and non-load-bearing interior walls), IfcSlab (FLOOR), IfcWindow, and IfcDoor
  • AcousticRating (Rw [dB] as a number), Status, and PredefinedType per component
  • IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
