Layout planning for decision-making

Maintain the spatial layout early in the model and decide on options - spaces only, optionally symbolic doors.

Starting point

• Layout decisions (subdivision, circulation, daylight) need early 3D orientation; full element modelling is too heavy at this stage.
• 2D plans alone make option comparison and alignment with client and users harder.

Goal & benefit

• Model only space volumes to check size, location, and subdivision early.
• Optionally add doors symbolically - with PredefinedType and approximate location.

Process

1. Provide interior spaces as volumes with use and dimensions; optionally exterior spaces for balconies and terraces.
2. Where needed, place doors with PredefinedType symbolically - without execution detail.
3. Compare options.

Outcome

• Coordinated spatial layout as a decision basis - without wall or fit-out modelling.

Deliverables

• Architecture model with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
• Interior spaces as modelled IfcSpace volumes (PredefinedType=INTERNAL); LongName with use; NetFloorArea as size indication
• Optional: exterior spaces (IfcSpace, PredefinedType=EXTERNAL) for balconies and terraces
• Optional early: symbolic IfcDoor - PredefinedType and approximate location
