Full life-cycle calculation (LCA) from the model

DES-LCA · General · Design

Carry component quantities and materials in the model so a full LCA is possible without parallel quantity lists.

Starting point

  • Life-cycle assessments need reliable quantities and material data; these are often missing in the model or only live in spreadsheets.
  • Manual rework for SNBS, KBOB, or LCA tools is error-prone and delays decisions.

Goal & benefit

  • Provide architecture and structural components with material and quantities as the LCA basis.
  • Enable earlier, repeatable life-cycle calculations instead of late one-off rework.

Process

  1. Carry governing components with geometry and material in the model.
  2. Extract quantities (volumes, areas) and material indicators from the model.
  3. Transfer the data into LCA/certification tools and compare variants.

Outcome

  • Model-based input data for a full life-cycle calculation (LCA).

Deliverables

  • Architecture and structural model with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
  • Governing components (walls, slabs, roofs, columns, beams, foundations, facade and fit-out elements) with material
  • Quantity attributes (e.g. GrossVolume, GrossSideArea, GrossFloorArea) per component
