Determine floor area from the model
DES-GFA · General · Design
Model storey volumes and air spaces and derive floor area from storey volume minus air space.
Starting point
- Floor-area verification and metrics need traceable quantities per storey.
- Manual deductions for atriums and voids are error-prone and hard to align with the model.
Goal & benefit
- Maintain storey volumes and air spaces separately in the model.
- Derive countable floor area and volume directly from storey volume − air space.
Process
- Provide storey volumes according to the modelling guideline.
- Model non-occupiable air spaces storey by storey.
- Evaluate floor area and volume from storey volume minus air space.
Outcome
- Traceable floor area and volume per storey from the model - with air spaces deducted.
Deliverables
- Architecture model with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
- Storey volumes modelled as IfcSpace with PredefinedType=USERDEFINED and ObjectType=Bruttovolumen
- Air spaces as IfcSpace with PredefinedType=USERDEFINED and ObjectType=Luftraum
- GrossFloorArea, GrossVolume, and Height per storey volume and per air space
