Basic services piping planning
DES-BASIC-PIPING · General · Design
Coordinate drainage and wastewater early in the model - before clashes in risers and below ceilings trigger costly design changes.
Starting point
- Roof drainage, downpipes, and wastewater are often planned late; clashes with structure and MEP become hard to resolve.
- Balcony drainage is frequently forgotten and leads to change orders during execution planning.
Goal & benefit
- Model the drainage path from roof and balcony through downpipes to wastewater mains early and traceably.
- Check risers, penetrations, and space requirements before detailed planning.
Process
- Model tapered insulation on flat roof and balcony with falls; derive drainage points from the fall layout.
- Route downpipes from roof and balconies to the main collector.
- Coordinate wastewater pipes in risers and main routes; check for clashes in the federated model.
Outcome
- Coordinated drainage and wastewater route as the basis for detailed sanitary planning.
Deliverables
- Architecture and MEP models with IfcProject, IfcSite, IfcBuilding, and IfcBuildingStorey
- IfcCovering with PredefinedType=ROOFING - tapered insulation on flat roof and balcony with falls
- IfcPipeSegment with Reference=FL - downpipes from roof and balconies
- IfcPipeSegment with Reference=AW, WW, or ENT - wastewater pipes in risers and main routes
- IfcSpace with PredefinedType=EXTERNAL - balconies and terraces as drainage starting points
