Exterior spaces

SPACE-EXT

Usable room volumes located outside the building.

Description

  • Exterior spaces such as balconies, terraces, and treated surroundings.
  • Room use is carried in LongName; Name may carry the room number.

Modelling guidelines

  • Model as a volume outside the building.
  • Assign balconies and terraces to the matching storey.
  • Best practice: model exterior spaces only 1 m high to visually distinguish them from interior spaces quickly.

Attributes

Name Description Unit
PredefinedType

Marks the space as exterior.

Allowed values

  • EXTERNAL - exterior space
InteriorOrExteriorSpace

Marks the space as exterior.

Allowed values

  • EXTERNAL - exterior space

Note

  • IFC2x3 substitute for PredefinedType and IsExternal.
LongName

Normalized room use for exterior spaces according to Pragmatic BIM Building Space Name Classification v0.2.0.

Source

Allowed values

  • See value list Room name exterior space v0.2.0 - RN notation.
Name

Unique technical room number for planning. It should stay stable as long as:

  • the room size does not change substantially (e.g. from 12 m² office to 25 m² open-plan office)
  • the function does not change substantially (e.g. from office to meeting room)
  • and the orientation does not change (e.g. from south to east facing)

Do not use for signage - signage room numbers change often and belong in SignageRoomNumber.

SignageRoomNumber

ePset_SpaceSignage

Room number for wayfinding signage (labelling, orientation). Separate from the technical planning room number (Name), because signage numbers often change and frequently differ from the planning number.

IsExternal

Pset_SpaceCommon

Marks an exterior space.

Allowed values

  • TRUE - exterior space
Reference

Pset_SpaceCommon

Area class of the exterior space according to SIA 416 or SIA D0165.

Source

  • SIA 416: https://schema.pragmaticbim.ch/classification/mapping-room-activity-to-sia416.html
  • SIA D0165: https://schema.pragmaticbim.ch/classification/mapping-room-activity-to-d0165.html

Allowed values

  • See value list Space reference exterior SIA 416 / D0165 - e.g. AGF, AVF, BUF, UUF (SIA 416) or BUF-10, AVF, AFF, ANF (D0165).
NetFloorArea

Qto_SpaceBaseQuantities

Net floor area of the modelled exterior space.

DesignAreaLoad

ePset_SpaceUsageAgreement

Agreed design area load for the usage agreement.

kN/m²
DesignPointLoad

ePset_SpaceUsageAgreement

Agreed design point load for the usage agreement.

kN
VibrationRequirements

ePset_SpaceUsageAgreement

Agreed vibration requirements for the usage agreement according to ISO vibration criteria and Vibration Criterion (VC) per IEST.

Allowed values

  • ISO Workshop - 800 µm/s (32,000 µin/s): workshops, coarse manufacturing areas, machine protection zones
  • ISO Office - 400 µm/s (16,000 µin/s): offices, control rooms, general administrative areas
  • ISO Residential (Night) - 200 µm/s (8,000 µin/s): residential areas (night), light PC workplaces, microscopes <40×
  • ISO Operating Theatre (OT) - 100 µm/s (4,000 µin/s): baseline (Base Curve): operating theatres, general laboratories, microscopes up to 100×
  • VC-A - Vibration Criterion A per IEST
  • VC-B - Vibration Criterion B per IEST
  • VC-C - Vibration Criterion C per IEST
  • VC-D - Vibration Criterion D per IEST
  • VC-E - Vibration Criterion E per IEST
